How SpaceX’s “Dare, Fail Fast and Iterate Many Times” Mindset Redefined an Industry—And What Europe Can Learn

Last week at DTU – Technical University of Denmark’s inaugural #ELPIS Leading Industrial Science program, Eva Berneke shared a hard truth: winning in industries like space isn’t just about breakthrough products. It’s also about revolutionizing how you build them.

SpaceX didn’t just innovate rockets; they industrialized failure. Their “try, crash and collect data, iterate” cycle turned reusable rockets from a fantasy dismissed by many in Europe, into a low cost launch reality. They also industrialized the production of satellite, and dramatically reduced their unit cost.

Strategic agility and ambition, steep learning curves and setbacks along the way are all ingredients of progress. The question for European industry: Are we bold enough to embrace that mindset?
